Fundamento: la historia del hospital Manuel Ascunce Domenech comenzó en 1946. Objetivo: Resaltar la importancia que tuvieron los trabajadores y decisores en la evolución histórica de la institución. Método: Es una investigación histórica basada en la investigación documental, se utiliza el submétodo cronológico para establecer el orden de los hechos que se describen. Se hicieron entrevistas a personalidades que laboran en el hospital desde o cercano a su fundación el 14 de enero de 1962 y se revisaron algunos artículos históricos (...) publicados. Resultados: Fueron necesarios 16 años desde que el gobierno de turno en el 1946 procediera a la segregación y compraventa de una parcela de terreno para la construcción del Hospital hasta su inauguración. Solo con el triunfo de la revolución y la voluntad política se pudo terminar la obra. Conclusiones: El Hospital ha cumplido una importante función asistencial, docente, gerencial e investigativa. Method: It is a historical research based on the documental research. The chronological sub method is used with the purpose to establish the order of the facts that are described here. Interviews to personalities that work in the hospital from or near the date of foundation on January 14, 1962 were made and some published historical articles were revised. Results: a period of 16 years was necessary since 1946 when the government of that moment proceeded to segregation, sale and purchase of a land parcel for the construction of the Hospital until its inauguration. The building work was possible to conclude just with the victory of the revolution and its political will. En este artículo se concibió la oponencia como forma de crítica científica. Se realizó un análisis del ejercicio de oponencia por los problemas identificados en la Universidad de Ciencias Médicas de Camagüey, desde el pregrado hasta el postgrado en la realización de los informes finales de investigaciones, tesis y publicaciones. El objetivo fue valorar la oponencia como forma madura y ética de la crítica científica. Se propuso una metódica para el ejercicio de la oponencia contentiva de la selección del oponente, (...) conocimiento del investigador, acercamiento al trabajo investigativo y el juicio crítico al evaluar y emitir veredicto. De igual forma se expusieron requisitos para realizar una buena oponencia, así como elementos en la estructura de un informe de oponencia que no deben faltar, con independencia del nivel en el cual se realice. Para finalizar se hizo un acercamiento a la posición del investigador ante la crítica. Discussion is conceived as a form of scientific criticism, for this reason an analysis of the discussant performance considering difficulties identified at the Medical University in Camag|ey, at the undergraduate and the postgraduate levels regarding final reports of researches, theses and articles for publication. The objective was to assess the discussants performance in regard to ethical issues. The subject of the study is the concepts of "metaphilosophy" in the works of several modern domestic and foreign scientists-metaphilosophists. The relevance of the article is due to the presence of a variety of metaphilosophical concepts, which, pursuing one common goal – to understand and explain what philosophy is, come to different and often contradictory conclusions. The article aims to compare the metaphilosophical concepts of domestic and foreign authors (T. I. Oizerman, M. K. Mamardashvili, J. Deleuze and F. Guattari, T. (...) Williamson and N. Rescher) according to certain criteria. Within the framework of the task, it is proposed to identify the essential characteristics of the concept of "philosophy" of the listed authors and to propose a variant of the typology of modern concepts of metaphilosophy. The article uses the method of comparative analysis. The novelty of the research lies in the fact that the author, analyzing the existing typologies of metaphilosophical concepts (on a conceptual and methodological basis), offers a third variant of the typology in relation to the possibility of progress in philosophy and its prospects. The author draws attention to the fact that the understanding of metaphilosophy in the concepts of the scientists under consideration (Oiserman, Williamson, Rescher, Deleuze and Guattari) reveals interesting parallels and collisions. The author comes to the conclusion that in order to better understand the nature of metaphilosophy, it is necessary to identify the essential characteristics of the concept of metaphilosophy in the concepts of different scientists. The picture of metaphilosophy turns out to be diverse and contradictory, because according to the authors considered, metaphilosophy is "cabinet"; - pluralistic; - "aporic"; - self-reflexive; - dialectical; - is in constant development; - guided by the principles of pragmatism and efficiency; - able to give satisfactory answers to current questions; - is not absolutely rational, but contains an element of intuition. In the context of the new paradigms of the knowledge-based economy, education and the quality of the educational system is becoming one of the strongest factors of influence. Decisions regarding the financing of education have a particular impact on the level of expenditure in the pre-university system and on the organization of the system of study courses. Furthermore, they are closely linked to the economics and accounting of pre-university education institutions. The existence or lack of material resources can greatly influence (...) the teaching activity process and implicitly the results achieved by the system. This paper aims to examine the consequences of certain decisions regarding funding in education, student achievement in pre-university education using data on government spending in the world relative to a single student, the level of salaries in secondary education and the number of students per teacher and the student's test scores. The authors chose the quantitative research methodology using the multiple linear regression model with dependent and independent variables to test the extent to which certain parameters of the funding process can influence the results achieved by students in standardized tests. The research results show that decisions regarding the financing of education in terms of salaries and the level of funding based on the standard cost per student have a direct impact on the achievements of the students and also, on the scores achieved by students. En el marco de los debates producidos después de cumplirse el cincuentenario de la publicación de la obra de Hans-Georg Gadamer Verdad y método (1960) este trabajo se propone abordar dos asuntos de la propuesta hermenéutica del autor. El primero busca establecer el hilo articulador entre el discurso de la obra mencionada, todavía apegado a su debate con la hermenéutica tradicional, y algunas formulaciones de su obra tardía, donde “el alma de la hermenéutica” se despliega como “arte de escuchar al (...) otro”. El segundo busca destacar la rehabilitación que Gadamer hace de la eumeneîs élenchoi socrático platónica. Expresión que se traduce como el “arte de reforzar el discurso del otro”, cuya explicitación en su obra tardía ha posibilitado que muchos intérpretes de su obra vean un diálogo posible entre su hermenéutica y algunos aspectos de la filosofía de Donald Davidson. : Cícero é uma das poucas fontes críticas de textos do pensamento helenístico durante o período da Roma republicana. Ele atualiza a filosofia grega e, concomitantemente, reconhece a superioridade do direito romano. O espírito prático e guerreiro do povo romano afastava a filosofia, mas a emergência de novos problemas exigia reflexão. Nas disputas políticas e jurídicas, a retórica era um instrumento indispensável. O reaparecimento de estudos retóricos no século XX permitiu que alguns comentadores reconsiderassem a relação entre a retórica e (...) a filosofia, propiciando algumas reflexões sobre o papel de Cícero na historiografia da filosofia. El artículo que presentamos se propone examinar la presencia operativa del concepto husserliana de "mundo de la vida" en la filosofía hermenéutica de Hans-Georg Gadamer, dentro del marco general de su recepción crítica de la filosofía de Edmund Husserl. Consideramos que, pese a las reservas críticas que tiene Gadamer respecto del método y el proyecto fundacional de la fénomenología, es posible destacar en la lectura que éste hace de laobra de Husserl puntos de encuentro de relevancia para la aclaración de (...) sus propios planteamientos, referidos fundamentalmente a la lucha contra el objetivismo y sus efectos alienantes sobre la praxis social y cultural, así como a la rehabilitación de un ámbito pre-reflexivo previo a lógica de la investigación científica, considerado por ambos autores como el suelo donde estarían enraizadas todas las producciones culturales. El objetivo de este estudio es conocer la percepción que tiene el alumnado de periferias escolares sobre las ciencias sociales. Para ello se ha diseñado y validado un instrumento, con la pretensión de que 120 estudiantes de centros escolares públicos de educación secundaria de la Comunidad Valenciana puedan aportar información sobre su aprendizaje de las ciencias sociales, las estrategias de enseñanza desempeñadas por el profesorado y su valoración de la formación ciudadana de esos proyectos didácticos que trabajan los problemas socialmente (...) relevantes. La percepción de las ciencias sociales es óptima y con diferencias más significativas entre los dos cursos analizados. (shrink)

Dans un tel ouvrage, les étudiants apprendront ce qu'il faut savoir lorsqu'on aborde l'étude de la philosophie antique. O tema deste artigo é o antagonismo entre duas “escolas” filosóficas que se desenvolveram a partir de princípios opostos: as “escolas” jônica e a itálica. Aquela desenvolveu-se desde Tales em Mileto, passando por Anaximandro, Anaxímenes, Heráclito, Leucipo, Demócrito, Epicuro..., cuja filosofia se denomina materialista A segunda, de Parmênides, Zenão... até, principalmente, Sócrates, Platão e Aristóteles, cuja filosofia se chama idealista. O proposto é um esquema de releitura dessa história e uma problematização mínima das suas consequências. Verifica-se que desde a Antiguidade (...) os filósofos reconheciam a existência desse antagonismo e conscientemente opunham-se entre si, numa luta cuja vitória, a história o conta, foi dos idealistas. Não se trata de um estudo exaustivo de cada um desses filósofos, mas apenas alguns, aqueles por mim considerados mais exemplares da época dos primórdios da filosofia grega. Ressalta-se, ainda, que esse antagonismo vem sendo recorrentemente negligenciado nos manuais de história da filosofia. Como o único meio para mostrar isso é o de evidenciar a incoerência dos manuais a partir dos próprios textos e testemunhos desses filósofos, o leitor encontrará, com maior ênfase, uma análise do desenvolvimento do atomismo em Leucipo a partir da filosofia de Anaxímenes, ao contrário da afirmação costumeira de que o atomismo se originou da doutrina do Ser de Parmênides. This book considers the aesthetic, cultural, and philosophical facets of a temporal paradox in the works of French novelist Claude Simon, and its broader implications for the study of narrative, and for cultural and post-modern theory.

Focusing on the controversial birth control pills Yaz and Yasmin, this article explores how debates about the safety of these drugs have materialized in risk evaluations and the management of technological risk. Drawing on in-depth interviews with stakeholders and content analysis of legal, medical, and regulatory documents, I highlight how professional contraceptive risk assessment is characterized by systemic uncertainty and doubt, resulting in increased responsibility for users themselves to manage the drugs’ potentially increased risks of venous thromboembolism. The analysis centers (...) on three key areas in the assessment process that denote disagreement: risk measurement in postmarket surveillance data, the distinctiveness of the drugs’ benefits when compared to other contraceptive technologies, and the weighing of the risks and benefits against each other. While professionals negotiate uncertainty both in epidemiological research and in clinical practice, users are constructed as agents who should manage risk individually. Such processes are underlined by a diffusion of responsibility in the systemic management of contraceptive risk. This article suggests, more broadly, that medical technologies can be conceptualized as artifacts that are instrumental in the dispersion of risks. (shrink)

The aim of the paper is to establish a relation between the cooperative principle formulated by H.P. Grice in pragmatics and the principle of sincere cooperation laid down in the founding Treaties on the European Union and interpretated by the Court of Justice of the European Union, intimately linked to the ethical imperative of cooperation, in a cultural framework shared by the Member States. The key concepts are ratio and value and the case-law analysed is provided by the recent cases (...) of the Romanian magistrates. The principle of cooperation reasserted also as the Cooperation and Verification Mechanism is the main obligation and it implies compliance with agreements and action to obtain certain effects. Science fiction cinema proposal for Bioethic education Proposta do cinema de ficção científica para educar em Bioética Posthumanism state that technologies will eliminate aging, improve cognitive, physical and psychological skills and keep alive human minds by uploading them in machines as artificial intelligence. These beliefs, as constant features in science fiction films, could be useful to educate medical students in Bioethics. We propose some of these science fiction films related with technological changes of humans and the noxious consequences: Being turned (...) into a humanoid created by genetic engineering; a slave or a merchandize without rights; discrimination because of eugenesic genetic manipulation; and/or the creation of cyborgs of mass destruction. Also, the movies can show the reader issues of ethnic supremacy dilemmas, identity impersonate and ambition, impersonal intelligence and conscience and identity transpass after death. These films will help teachers to analyze with students the moral limits of science and technologies. Within the framework of some of Dilthey's themes such as historicity, finitude and the ineffability of all human productions, the A. approaches the problem of Subjectivity in relation to the Human Sciences (Geisteswissenschaften) which, conceived as forms of self-reflection of historical life itself, put in evidence a Subject compelled to redefine its cognitive possibilities. This paper examines the presence of the Husserlian operative concept of the "lifeworld"in Hans-Georg Gadamer's hermeneutic philosophy. It is suggested that, regardless of Gadamer·s criticisms to the method and the foundational project of phenomenology, it is possible to highlight in his interpretation of Husserl's work relevant shared aspects for the clarification of his own position. These are concerned with the struggle against objectivism and its alienating effects against cultural and social praxis, as well as the rehabilitation of a pre-reflective space (...) previous to logic and scientific research, which are regarded by both authors as the ground where all cultural products are rooted. In this paper, I will discuss new approaches to investigating increasingly influential, yet under-researched, theoretical assumptions regarding the role dialogic interaction plays in cognitive development. I will present a psychological theory that refines social learning models by integrating them with schema-theoreticperspectives. I will then review Philosophy for Children pedagogy, demonstrating how it can provide a useful context for conducting empirical studies of learning theories that emphasize the use of dialogue for promoting individual argumentation development. Next, I will describe a research (...) design and data-analytic tools used to examine the educational potential of engagement in a philosophical dialogue for the development of argumentation. Finally, I will present preliminary results of a study evaluating the connections between 1) specific features of group interactions experienced by elementary school students and 2) individual student performance on multiple measures of argumentation. Nietzsche is one of the most controversial and disputed philosophers, especially because of his association with Hitler and Nazism, but also through his upsetting philosophical decisions that deny the possibility of any morality centered on good and evil as absolute values in themselves. As for his association with Hitler, the sources prove that Nietzsche’s philosophy has nothing to do with the justification or support of the nationalist-socialist dictatorship. In addition, any connoisseur of his work can easily see that Hitler does (...) not fit at all with the description of the overman that Nietzsche conceptualizes and identifies with. As for morality, it seems to support a relativization of the values of good and evil until their dissolution, but a closer look can see that the morality of the masters accredited by Nietzsche is one of austerity, balance, respect, honor, dignity, of preferring loneliness to the amusement of the crowd. All these are values that even Christianity proposes. Lonely and incomprehensible, the master, Nietzsche lives a lifestyle similar to Christian ascetics. And just as the philosopher claims that the life of the masters should not be passed through the sieve of ordinary moral evaluations, who could judge in terms of “good” or “bad” the way the austere ones lived? Gaze following is the ability to use others’ gaze to obtain information about the environment. As such, it may be highly adaptive in a variety of socio-ecological contexts, and thus be widespread across animal taxa. To date, gaze following has been mostly studied in primates, and partially in birds, but little is known on the gaze following abilities of other taxa and, especially, on the evolutionary pressures that led to their emergence. In this study, we used an experimental approach to (...) test gaze following skills in a still understudied taxon, ungulates. Across four species, we assessed the individual ability to spontaneously follow the gaze of both conspecifics and human experimenters in different conditions. In line with our predictions, species followed the model’s gaze both with human and conspecific models, but more likely with the latter. Except for guanacos, all species showed gaze following significantly more in the experimental conditions. Despite the relative low number of study subjects, our study provides the first experimental evidence of gaze following skills in non-domesticated ungulates, and contributes to understanding how gaze following skills are distributed in another taxon—an essential endeavor to identify the evolutionary pressures leading to the emergence of gaze following skills across taxa. Comment on Alfandre et al, "Between Usual and Crisis Phases of a Public Health Emergency: The Mediating Role of Contingency Measures".

This paper introduces moral argument analytics, a technology that provides insights into the use of moral arguments in discourse. We analyse five socio-political corpora of argument annotated data from offline and online discussions, totalling 240k words with 9k arguments, with an average annotation accuracy of 78%. Using a lexicon-based method, we automatically annotate these arguments with moral foundations, achieving an estimated accuracy of 83%. Quantitative analysis allows us to observe statistical patterns and trends in the use of moral arguments, whereas (...) qualitative analysis enables us to understand and explain the communication strategies in the use of moral arguments in different settings. For instance, supporting arguments often rely on Loyalty and Authority, while attacking arguments use Care. We find that online discussions exhibit a greater diversity of moral foundations and a higher negative valence of moral arguments. Online arguers often rely more on Harm rather than Care, Degradation rather than Sanctity. These insights have significant implications for AI applications, particularly in understanding and predicting human and machine moral behaviours. This work contributes to the construction of more convincing messages and the detection of harmful or biased AI-generated synthetic content. (shrink)

The paper considers three main models of temporal consciousness proposed in grappling with the “paradox of temporal awareness”. They are based on the notion that there is a basic element of perception in the form of some “mental frame” or “apparent present” which, while effective for describing some perceptual features, does not fully reflect our phenomenal experience. It is argued that a two-level model based on the separation of the “specious present” and “current present” is best correlated with higher-order theories (...) of consciousness and should act as a basis for further development of the temporal model of consciousness. The present study sets out to discuss a literary work as a reflection of topophrenia, a space of anguish, which contains the data of both the abandoned space and of the new home, which are hypostasized in positive or negative emotions that the exiled writer experiences. Focusing on the exile and the space in Norman Manea’s works, this article proves the existence of an original view about this experience. The purpose of the study is to research intermediary transactions in the oil and gas producing industries and present them based on the results of the internal audit. In accordance with this goal, the article discusses and analyzes the theoretical aspects of accounting and methods of conducting an internal audit of settlements for intermediary transactions in oil companies. Attention is focused on the fact that intermediary operations are important in regulating the mechanism of market relations of both manufacturing companies and (...) purchasing companies. The article analyzes the current methodological guidelines of oil companies on the accounting of intermediary operations and the rules for conducting internal audits. As a result, shortcomings in the accounting of intermediary operations were identified and methodological recommendations for their improvement were presented, confirming the scientific novelty of the study. A current trend in bioethics considers genetic information as family property. This paper uses a logical approach to critically examine Matthew Liao’s proposal on the familial nature of genetic information as grounds for the duty to share it with relatives and for breach of confidentiality by the geneticist. The authors expand on the topic by examining the relationship between the arguments of probability and the familial nature of genetic information, as well as the concept of harm in the context of (...) genetic risk. Lastly, they examine the concept of harm in relation to the type of situations w the potential recipient of the information is not the person directly affected by the risk. (shrink)
